Harvest Youth Club (HYC)

HYC is primarily an afterschool care facility for school-age kids located in the Harvest community. They currently serve 400 youth from Harvest, Monrovia, Toney, Madison Cross Roads and East Limestone County. They provide afterschool transportation from several elementary, middle and high schools within that service area to the Club, where youth participate in a variety of fun and educational activities in a safe, structured environment. HYC also conducts a summer day camp, providing supervised field trips and other opportunities for fun and learning.

Melvin Allen serves as Executive Director, and he manages a dedicated, experienced staff intent on offering Christ-like examples, positive role models and programs. Their motto is “Developing Youth and Strengthening Families.” Their goal is to provide a sense of belonging and the tools for each youth to learn to make positive choices. Their hope is to help improve the factors that often lead to increased crime rates in groups of at-risk youth, including those who have little supervision or structure during afterschool hours. The staff is sensitive to the hurts and disappointments experienced by so many youth, so they work hard to be welcoming, encouraging and comforting in Christ’s Name.

In addition to financial support, Asbury has joined forces with HYC by having youth and adult volunteers participating in afterschool tutoring programs. Also, many youth from HYC participated in last summer’s I AM Sports Camp and Vacation Bible School/Summer Explosion, mission activities sponsored by Asbury and powered by volunteers.
